Based on what I have charged customers in the past, if you want to have a professional water heater installation, a 40 gallons gas water heater will cost you around $950 to $1100 dollars or even more.

The price above is only applicable if you already have most of the plumbing done at your house, if further plumbing is needed to proper install the water heater, the pricing can increase quite a bit.

What about hot water heater problems? How much does it cost to repair it? It will vary, but the average cost will be at least $185 per hour for labor plus the charges for parts that can be a couple hundred dollars more.

How to maintain a water heater to help prolong its lifetime? You have several options that can easily be done by yourself, you can replace the water heater anode, you can flush hot water heater, and you can also install a water softener.

Also, if the heater is losing hot water or consuming too much gas or electricity, consider installing a heater blanket.
