Replacing a Basement Shower Stall

by Jim
(jkawimbi@yahoo.ca)

Hi, this is a great site! I couldn't have found it at a better time and I for some real helpful tips that are helping me in my current project.

I hope yo will not mind if I ask a question?

My current project is replacing a basement shower stall with an 60" tub. So far everything is going great. I know how to install the waste and overflow kit on the tub and how to get the waste water routed to the old drain where the shower was.

My question is: the old shower drain seems to go straight down, and I am not sure if there is a P-trap down there. I am assuming there is one since there is no evidence of sewer gas smell.

Am I correct in assuming that OR should I install another P-trap? Would it make a difference if I do install one even if there is one underneath?

Thank you very much, and again, great site!

Jim
