Sewer Repair or Line Replacement?

Considering sewer replacement or sewer repair? Why it should be replaced or repair?

Are you considering replacing your home sewer line? Why do you want to do that? Is it because you recently had a clogged sewer?

Did you have a sewer flood in your home? Whatever is your reason, sewer problem should not be taken lightly.

Failing to address the problem when it happens can eventually turn out to be a much more expensive project than if it was done initially. If you wait, you might regret later.

Sewer repair or sewer replacement is not an easy task; in fact, it is a very expensive project, no matter when you do it, the more you wait, the more expensive it can become and it usually costs thousands of dollars to solve it.

Most sewer backups are followed by sewer floods which can double the expenses and damages of the property owner.

Sewer Line Shouldn’t Plug:

Main sewer line is the most important plumbing drain system of all plumbing system in residence or commercial settings.

The main line is responsible for collecting all the debris of the other drains that are connected to it and for flushing the debris in the city sewer systems or to a private septic tank.

Main drain lines are built to never fail, meaning that, it should never get clogged but, if it happens, it is possible that the line might have a physical obstruction or damage within the piping system. Therefore, a sewer repair might become a possible solution for it.

A sewer drain should work free of problems for many decades but, unfortunately, just like anything else, nothing last forever and, even a big 4” drain will eventually stop working and get clogged, which can be a sign for a sewer repair.

Why Sewer Line Plug?

Common causes of a sewer backup are as follow: Drain usage abuse, tree roots invasion in the pipe, loss of pipe grading, separations on the piping connections, also known as: Joints failure, broken pipes, collapsed pipes or simply a foreign object stuck in the line, such as: cleanout cap, rocks or even cell phones.

So, as you can see, a main drain pipe should work perfectly well, as long as, the plumbing system remains intact and well maintained, otherwise, the system will clog.

Determining the Problem:

The best way to determine whether a sewer repair or replacement is needed; you will have to contract a company to perform a video camera inspection.

Sewer inspection should only be performed by professionals, so, make sure to contract a reputable company to inspect your sewer line.

Most companies when hired to unclog a main drain, will provide you with a complimentary sewer line inspection.

But if you unplug the drain yourself, then, you will have to pay for it and, usually will cost around $250 to $400.

In nowadays, a majority of drain companies have advanced technologies and state of the art equipments that can easily and accurately perform a sewer line inspection in record time. It takes about 25 minutes or less to fully inspect a main line.

Just on little note: when the video camera is being performed, please, make sure to be present to watch the video recording as it is being done by the professional.

Once the video camera has been finished and the problem (s) has (have) been identified, the expert should be able to provide you with a clear explanation of the current condition of the pipe and determine if you home needs a sewer repair or a new sewer line.

Before Replacing a Line:

Sewer repair or replacement is not the same as replacing a pair of shoes or going at the grocery store to buy a gallon of milk.

Replacing or repairing a sewer line is much more complicated than that, it required a lot of experiences, skills and solid knowledge.

Also, if it is time to replace or repair your sewer line, be prepare to set aside several thousands of dollars or be prepared to finance the project.

A sewer replacement or sewer repair is one of the most expensive projects that one will ever have to do in his or her home.

Methods to Fix a Sewer Line:

As it was mentioned above, if the sewer line is inspected by a professional, he should be able to determine the cause (s) of the backup.

A good professional should also be able to determine the most effective approach to fix the problem.

However, if for any reason, you don’t trust on his opinion, then, you should get a second or third opinion from other professionals.

The most common methods for a sewer repair or replacement are the

traditional digging for a spot repair or whole line replacement and the trenchless methods, also known as perma liner and pipe bursting. What method is the best one? How do I know which one to choose?
